good music

So I heard this new band on the radio today. Hard rock. Crashing drums, driving guitars, slamming bass, and then the twist. This etherial voice comes lilting in over the music for a measure...and then turns into an almost primal roar. I must say, it gave me chills. Turns out, this band is a local Texas band, touring heavily in the states with the likes of P.O.D., Korn, Bowling for Soup, and Evanescence. Even more amazing, they are unabashadly "Christian." One song is called "Carrie," dedicated to Carrie of Columbine. Another is about living fully alive even when you are in pain and life sucks. This band is called "Flyleaf." Here is the video for the song I heard, let me know what you think of them. By the by, their website is www.flyleafmusic.com if you want to check the bio and read the lyrics to their songs.

Wow! She's got a great voice! Although, I didn't really like the screaming.

That makes me old, doesn't it?

But I liked the rest of the song!

Does that redeem me?

Yes, it redeems you. If you go to their website, there are a couple of other songs to listen to, and they don't have "screaming," just really loud "talking"

I have so much respect for the rage in songs like this, and the machine gun synchronicity of the drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. I've also realized I don't really connect for some reason with these stylings, and it bugs the hell out of me. I feel so tragically unhip. It's not that I don't get it, or feel it, I do, I just don't necessarily like it, and I feel like I should. I AM NOT GETTING OLD!

I didn't like the screaming actually either. Hmmm...here is my narrow minded thought...are we as Christians really suppose to distort our voices like that to where, to me, it sounds kind of evil? I think that Christ likes beauty...He is the maker of beauty. I don't see screaming like a banchee beautiful.Anyhoo....

Happy Birthday late! Hope you had a good one.

P.O.D. is still out there making "Christian" music. Most of the time, you would have a hard time telling that by their lyrics, but they are still a Christian band.

Alyssa, God made everything, not just the things you've decided are beautiful. Try not to judge His work, but to stretch yourself in faith and see the beauty. Like the loving, tolerant Jesus (who trusted his Father's creation implicitly) you'll find less evil and more God in everything and everyone that way.
